Jakarta Police chief promoted

The
National Police announced on Monday that Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Dwi
Priyatno had been promoted to three-star general and had assumed the position
of chief of the general supervision inspectorate (Irwasum), replacing retiring
Comr. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam.

Dwi, graduated from the police
academy in 1982, the same year as National Police chief Gen. Sutarman, and was
appointed Jakarta Police chief in March, and is considered an uncompromising
leader.

His legacies include the closing of
the notorious icon of Jakarta's underbelly, Stadium nightclub, in Central
Jakarta and the prosecution of alleged rape suspects in Jakarta International
School (JIS), which implicated five janitors and two teachers.

Dwi is also credited with
successfully securing Jakarta during the legislative election on April 9, the
presidential election on June 9 and the delivery of the Constitutional Court’s
verdict on Aug. 21 that confirmed the victory of president-elect Joko
"Jokowi" Widodo.

East Java Police chief Insp. Gen.
Unggung Cahyono, who graduated from the police academy in 1985, has been
appointed as Dwi's replacement as of Sept. 1, according to a National Police
rotation announcement.

Unggung has spent most of his career
in the National Police's Mobile Brigade Division (Brimob). He was the deputy
Papua Police chief from 2010 to 2011, West Kalimantan Police chief from 2011 to
2012, and Brimob chief from 2012 to 2013.

National Police deputy detective
chief Insp. Gen. Anas Yusuf, a 1985 graduate, has assumed the post of East Java
police chief.
