Past simple używasz wtedy, gdy czynność jest zakończona i nie ma żadnego związku z teraźniejszością, oraz, kiedy masz w zdaniu określony czas (wiesz, kiedy dana rzecz się zdarzyła - masz datę, godzinę, porę dnia...). Present perfect używasz, gdy czynność zakończyła się niedawno i jej skutki trwają, oraz, gdy mówisz o czymś, co się wydarzyło, bez określania czasu (zdania typu: Czy kiedykolwiek jadleś ślimaka? / Nigdy nie byłem w Rosji. / Właśnie skończyłem odrabiać pracę domową).
